We are raising our flock for easy care, we currently run between 50-60 breeding ewes. We value ewes that survive without intervention during all phases of production. We use NSIP data as part of our evaluation process to determine what lambs will be sold as breeding stock or at market. We collect fecal egg count as part of our 120-day data collection to better assess parasite resilience. Our flock is raised on pasture from early April to mid December. Once grazing has been exhausted ewes are provided hay and grain for late gestation through nursing.

Gestation in sheep varies from 142 to 152 days with the average being 147 days. Just like people, individual pregnancies can vary, gestation periods of 138 to 159 days are not unheard of. Ewes carrying multiple lambs tend to have shorter gestations while male lambs (and heavy birth weight lambs) are usually carried for longer than female lambs. The form above calculates the lambing date based on a 147 day gestation period.
