Clean, quality. In 2011, my first Katahdin ewes came out of stock from the Georgia test station (thanks to Lee Wright and Travis Crutchfield), and were bred by rams out of the production sale which gave me a solid start. My interest has been raising katahdins that stand square with balance and eye appeal while carrying the genetics and mothering instinct to go on to improve a flock. My focus is developing a flock with low epg carriers, high maternals with strong mothering instincts that also produce solid weight gain. Added to that now is genetic pneumonia resistance. The section of lambs/ewes tested (sold and retained) for TMEM154, scored 97% 1:4, with one 4:4 and two 1:1, one X:4, and one 1:x. When Travis lost sheep due to an outbreak of pneumonia I was pleased the mothers of my ewes were still there, and now I understand why. I hope to see these results on Registration certificates in the future as is Scrapie Codon 171. We are currently rebuilding our flock with an eye to join NSIP and a farm website. All our ewes are low epg carriers, excellent mothers, nice rate of gain producing twins and triplets, one ewe (QR) retiring this year has had 35 babies (98% RR) and still looks good. We have never had a bottle baby though we taught a quad to come to a bottle. Another retiree produced fast maturing (60 days like clockwork) twin rams nearly her entire (23+ lamb) career until her last year she produced triplets, two ewe lambs and a ram. Her dtr. produced triplets this her first year lambing this spring. I enjoy being a mentor to new shepherds whether they have purchased or not and greatly enjoy having quality animals that can help improve the genetics at their next destination. I am looking forward to your sale and bringing a few buyers with me.
