Dr. Robert Van Saun is a Professor of Veterinary Science and Extension Veterinarian in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, Penn State University. His expertise in small-ruminant mineral nutrition has been an essential resource for extension programs worldwide.

Dr. Weaver is the small ruminant extension specialist for North Carolina State University. He will be discussing the data they have collected on feed efficiency in Katahdin sheep and what potential it may have for genetic selection in the future.
Bill cares for and manages over 20 LGDs at the AgriLife Center in San Angelo and its research ranches in Menard, Sonora, and Ozona. Bill conducts research projects with LGDs using GPS trackers and game cameras. He is currently working on a multiyear LGD bonding project. Tracking of the dog’s movement, stock movement, and predator control on ranches across Texas will be recorded for the project’s purposes. The project also involves working with cooperating producers that will be using the dog’s Bill bonds on their ranches during the multi-year project.
David Scales has recently accepted the role of executive director for the national sheep improvement program. David will share his experiences in the sheep industry and new opportunities for the National Sheep Improvement Program.
Silvopasture – the intentional integration of trees and grazing livestock – has been a hot topic of agricultural webinars because growing trees can do just that. Alex Caskey combines his education in conservation biology with his love of lamb chops. Alex runs Barred Owl Brook Farm in the Adirondacks of northern New York State. He and his wife, Audrey Crocker, bought a fallow 60-acre farm five years ago. Around that time, Alex attended Steve Gabriel’s on-farm workshop about his experience with silvopasture and Alex was hooked.
